From Pirates to Pantomimes…

Clacton Musical Theatre Society has a long and proud history of bringing musical theatre to life on the local stage. Originally known as Clacton Amateur Operatic Society, we first graced the spotlight in 1929 with a performance of Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan — and we haven’t stopped singing since!

A few years ago, we rebranded as Clacton Musical Theatre Society to reflect the wider range of productions we now stage, from classic operettas and beloved musicals to modern hits and lively pantomimes. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to creativity, community, and the joy of live performance.

We’re a welcoming, inclusive group made up of people of all ages and backgrounds — performers, backstage crew, volunteers, and theatre lovers — all working together to create something special for our audiences.

Over the decades, CMTS has been a place where friendships are formed, skills are discovered, and confidence is built — all while having a fantastic time. Some of our members have even gone on to professional careers in theatre, but for many, it’s simply about the love of the stage and the sense of belonging.
